Hoping
Yesterday morning as we were opening presents, I was thinking about the people who had received my rugs as presents this year...and I was hoping that they love them. I especially like it when husbands buy my rugs for their wives, just think it is so sweet and thoughtful. So, please enjoy your rug and I hope you love it as much as I loved making it. Merry Christmas!

Fishmas Tree Dropped Off At The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Gallery Shop
The kids had an in service day on Thursday, so we headed to the big city to take some rugs to one of the shops. We met Sean at the AGNS, who I love as he is always so kind, asked us if we had time to take a tour of the gallery, and so we did! .. which the kids loved..and I really loved the Folk Art floor..work by Joe Norris, Deanne Fitzpatrick and Brad Naugler..to name a few. It got me thinking that how great it would be to have one of my rugs at the AGNS....hopefully one day.

After the show
The Show went really well!! Thanks so much to all the buyers, appreciate your kind words and support.
I was just getting the house back in order today, it seems my hubby doesn't know how to operate the dishwasher..or washing machine...I am not bitter, really.

SOLD
I very nice woman purchased "Woman Holding Fish" last weekend. It was actually a little weird as the woman had come in the show on Friday, and she and her friend had said they liked the colours in the rug..then that night I kept having dreams about this rug. First thing Sat. morning, the same woman came in and said she couldn't stop thinking about this rug, and ending up purchasing it.
It is one of my favourites, so glad it went to a good home.

Last touches for the Show
I have been spending the morning getting the rugs ready for the Designer Craft Market. I need to make sure the tags are on, that the rugs are all signed and tidy them up a bit..no loose threads...it feels like I am saying goodbye to them.
So, going to pick up kids afterschool, stuff them in the car, along with the rugs..bamboo screen, desk, and shelf, everything I need for my 5x5 space. The kids are going to be my "helpers"..I guess I just wanted them to see the Cunard Centre, the place where Mommy goes every November. I want them to see all the wonderful art and meet the artists.

Almost Ready for the Show!
Here is a pic of the studio/third bedroom/ex-toyroom. I put all the tags on the rugs today and will put on the price stickers on Friday..or maybe Monday or maybe..yup, I am procrastinating. Next to drawing, pricing the rugs is the next scariest thing that I do..not sure why, but it makes me nervous. BUT, I will forge ahead and I won't let fear get to me.

ballerina
This headless ballerina is available at Green Grass Running Water in Tatamagouche. Why is she headless? I am still not sure why I went thru a headless ballerina stage. I remember a gallery owner telling me I should have an answer to that question before an opening. So during the opening I just hoped no one would ask, and as luck would have it, no one did!

Woman holding Fish
Just finished this one. Originally the only red I had in the rug was in the fish. But then I needle felted on some rolag and yarn into the sky and water....blood dripping into the water I guess. ..I little morbid perhaps, but I think it looks ok.

I just drew a woman holding a fish on burlap today..and so now I have the sky and the sand?? maybe..I was going to have her standing in grass, but that gold is too much.....hmmm. have to think about that one some more.

Lady Ironing
This lady is hard at work. I always wanted to do a rug of a woman ironing..and I played with a lot of different sketches before I got one I liked. The background is a little dark..matches her mood I think..she doesn't particularily like to iron.

Drawing..the hard part
I had time to put some drawings onto the burlap today...and this is the hardest part of the whole process for me. It feels like I am almost holding my breath while I am drawing..hoping I can make it look somewhat like the small sketches I make...ahhh, got it done.

Small Rugs Off To Cat Fish Moon Studio and on the search for WOOL!
Just put four little rugs in a box to send off to CatFish Moon Studio in lovely Annapolis Royal. With the kids home from school, I can't really focus on starting a big rug, but it is a good time to get some small ones on the go.
I have been dragging the kids off to second hand clothing stores this week as they are bringing in their fall clothing..which means WOOL is BACK!! I try to stockpile as much as I can during the fall and winter, as once spring comes around..hard to find wool clothing for my rugs...which makes me a little panicky...a hooker needs her wool like..a pig needs mud.

NS Folk Art Festival 2011
set up for festival |
Just got back from Lunenburg...the festival was wonderful as always. So nice to see familiar faces, artists and art buyers, and just to be able to see the people the appreciate what you do face to face, is so special. When I get a cheque for a rug sold from one of the galleries, I feel like calling the gallery owners and asking "who bought it, what did they like about it etc etc" , but I am thinking the gallery owners would get a little tired of that. So the festival is such a great chance to meet the art buyers face to face.
I was thinking right after the festival, I need a break from making rugs..maybe a month or so ..but today I just want to get back at it..have some ideas floating around that I want to get started on ...but the kids are home from school...so I 'll try to be patient, and focus on the kids ..BUT when September comes...WATCH OUT!!Ok, maybe before September, the kids don't always need my attention, do they??
ps nice to talk to you woman in the orange dress, glad we are on the same wavelength about yoga..hee hee

Getting Ready for NS Folk Art Festival
NS Folk Art Festival 2009 |
The festival is sooo special, I can't say enough good things about it. It is great to meet fellow Folk Artists, it is great to meet the people who appreciate your work..and it is great to have such wonderful volunteers who help each year with the festival...great great great!!!!!
I will admit it is a bit nerve wracking. I do well every year I have attended but I always have a nagging worry that no one will stop by my table, I won't sell a single rug..I 'll feel like the last kid picked for the baseball team. Do all the Folk Artists feel this way I wonder??

New Shipment of Sari Ribbon Arrived!
Yesterday was like Christmas for me as a new batch of sari ribbon arrived in the mail!!!Yes, it excites me. I order it from a supplier on Etsy and to all you hookers out there...sari ribbon can really add to your rugs..it is thready, shiny..comes in yummy colours and you are helping a women's coop in Nepal as well. The women collect the left over scrapes from the sari "factories" and then sew them end to end and are paid fair wages for doing so.
