Foggy in the Fall

This little rug started off as 'Bird in the Snow' but all that white was making me cranky and had to add some colour so it became 'Foggy in the Fall'.... thanks to my Mothers' quick thinking...thanks Mom.

Fifty Shades of Grey-The Rug SOLD

This was very strange for me, this rug. I wanted to hook a winter tree and I don't use much white in my work but I used my braveness and went for it! I added a little colour to the tree, a bit of yellow and red sari because it was driving me nuts as it was so bleak. As I was hooking the sky, I thought wow!, this is a lot of grey..like fifty shades at least. Ha!

Just finished! SOLD

I just finished hooking big bird. I like it!..and I don't know how the lady in the rug feels about it. She is worried this big bird may have eaten her kitty, Fluffy.

"Kitty taking care of kitty business"

Just finished this little kitty. Originally he didn't have a tail and my daughter said, "It looks like a fish head- down into a box". ..so I added a tail. Glad I have a very honest ..and sweet..critic living with me.

Rug Hooking Magazine

Hetty van Gurp, former co-owner of Moose River Rug Hooking Studio, came to interview me today for an article which will appear in the September issue of Rug Hooking Magazine. We had a great talk about Folk Art and Rug Hooking, it was really such a pleasure to talk to Hetty!

Sari-ribbon

New shipment of sari-ribbon arrived. I cannot put into words just how much I love sari-ribbon...ok, I 'll try..it is just so yummy and pretty and well, it makes the rugs sing and dance...and SQUEAL WITH DELIGHT!

Old dress rug

I was rearranging the art on the walls today and I came across this rug. I use to make a lot of dress rugs and sometimes people would ask "where is the body?". The body? I wasn't quite ready for that! Eventually I moved on to "headless ballerinas" then finally I felt confident to add the whole body..but it took years of hooking. Sometimes people ask if I sell my designs as patterns, but no, I don't. They are all one-of-a-kind......and if I can do this, so can you...just take it step-by-step and you will do it.

Monday, November 26, 2012

Wee landscape..I think.

Yesterday, I pulled out a bunch of sari-ribbon from my basket...colours I don't ordinarily use...gray etc and ignored the ballerina I had drawn on the burlap and just started hooking.... I got so into it that I missed church!

Spotted Cow SOLD

I hooked this lovely cow in 2008. He always got lots of "oooo's and ah's" AND finally he found a home. I will be shipping him off to the States soon. Hope he doesn't get stopped at customs...worried they will think his spots will cause a "spotted Cow" outbreak.....ha!..just a little cow humour for you.

Laura at her booth for NSDCC Show

This is me at my 5x5' mini booth..yes, it is small but it is perfect for me. Perhaps one day I'll upgrade to a larger booth...baby steps.

NSDCC Show

Wow! What a weekend. Met so many people with stories to share. Lots of rugs were SOLD..I am feeling "Rugless in Truro"..hee hee. Well, there are a few left but not many. I had the best booth neighbours. I had a very nice conversation with a fellow artist about "What is Folk Art?" ...I still don't know. What do I do now? Clean the house, holy smokes... you should see it. PS If you are interested in which rugs SOLD, just go the the FB page, www.facebook.com/LauraKEnneyArtist. Thanks.

Booth for NSDCC Christmas Show

I have a 5x5' booth and I was working on how best to arrange a table, shelf and screen in that space. I think I have it worked out!

Meowy Christmas or.....

I want to title this "Meowy Christmas" but the kitty wants me to call it "Get this thing off me or I will scratch your eyes out". ...guess kitty isn't in the Christmas mood.

Let Me Wear Black

Yes, someone just bought "Let Me Wear Black" last night and the interesting thing is the women lives on the same street as the woman in the rug, the one who lost her husband. I hope she sees this one day..maybe not soon, but someday.

Let Me Wear Black

This was a toughie to make. A very kind young man in our community died suddenly about two months ago leaving behind a wife and two small girls. I was directed to his wife's blog by a friend and in it she said she just wanted to wear black so people would know she doesn't quite fit in now. The money from this rug will go to her husbands memorial fund.

A nun and two cats.

When our family was in Quebec City this summer, I went to the Musee national des beaux-arts du Quebec. I am afraid I don't recall the name of the painter, but he had painted a lovely painting of nuns and well, it got me thinking I would like to try to create a nun...so here I go!

Returned from NS Fibre Arts Festival

My table was situated under a very funky palm tree....complete with a blow up parrot... I dunno. I got back late last night form the Festival. This was my second year with the Festival..and to be honest, I am not too sure this is the show for me. But I am glad I gave it a try and now I need to focus on the NSDCC show which is just 5 weeks away!!! Run around in circles and panic!! Ha! My scissors and cutter are "in the shop" so I hope I can get hooking again full steam on Monday. Ciao.
