Green Grass Running Water - Opening

me and Sara Brinkhurst
Last Thursday I drove up to Tatamagouche for the official opening of GGRW. I met Maggie Wilkinson (owner) in a business class last fall. At that point, she was thinking about having a cafe/gallery and through the weeks we all witnessed her plans come together. Maggie would often bring in treats for us to sample...soooo good, I just knew her place would be a success as she loves what she does. She asked me if I would like to have my rugs at GGRW and of course I said yes! Alan Silliboy, Sara Brinkhurst, Tam Flemming, Jenny Gilmore, and Pamela Swainson  are a few of the artists with their work at GGRW and it is in Tatamagouche, just past Foodland.

Lady Ironing

This lady is hard at work. I always wanted to do a rug of a woman ironing..and I played with a lot of different sketches before I got one I liked. The background is a little dark..matches her mood I think..she doesn't particularily like to iron.

Drawing..the hard part

I had  time to put some drawings onto the burlap today...and this is the hardest part of the whole process for me. It feels like I am almost holding my breath while I am drawing..hoping I can make it look somewhat like the small sketches I make...ahhh, got it done.

Summer

at the beach
It has been a rather wet and cold summer in NS up until the last couple of weeks. So, been getting the kids out to the beaches lately. I am not much of a beach person myself..too much sand and sun..but the kids love it so much and it is great fun to watch them play.

Small Rugs Off To Cat Fish Moon Studio and on the search for WOOL!

Just put four little rugs in a box to send off to CatFish Moon Studio in lovely Annapolis Royal. With the kids home from school, I can't really focus on starting a big rug, but it is a good time to get some small ones on the go.

I have been dragging the kids off to second hand clothing stores this week as they are bringing in their fall clothing..which means WOOL is BACK!! I try to stockpile as much as I can during the fall and winter, as once spring comes around..hard to find wool clothing for my rugs...which makes me a little panicky...a hooker needs her wool like..a pig needs mud.

NS Folk Art Festival 2011

set up for festival
Just got back from Lunenburg...the festival was wonderful as always. So nice to see familiar faces, artists and art buyers, and just to be able to see the people the appreciate what you do face to face, is so special. When I get a cheque for a rug sold from one of the  galleries, I feel like calling the gallery owners and asking "who bought it, what did they like about it etc etc" , but I am thinking the gallery owners would get a little tired of that. So the festival is such a great chance to meet the art buyers face to face.

I was thinking right after the festival, I need a break from making rugs..maybe a month or so ..but today I just want to get back at it..have some ideas floating around that I want to get started on ...but the kids are home from school...so I 'll try to be patient, and focus on the kids ..BUT when September comes...WATCH OUT!!Ok, maybe before September, the kids don't always need my attention, do they??

ps nice to talk to you woman in the orange dress, glad we are on the same wavelength about yoga..hee hee
